Weekly blog posts(Answers to the given questions)——ZHONG XIN

1.Summary

I think firstly I need to familiarize myself with Wikipedia's copyright policy and make sure that I familiarize myself with the rules and regulations before editing the article, which includes policy guidelines for text, images or other media files. Secondly, I will try to write original content, writing articles or summaries and explanations in my own words, rather than copying and pasting directly from copyrighted sources. If I need to use copyrighted material, I must obtain permission from the copyright holder to do so, which requires me to contact the rights holder and receive explicit permission to use the content on Wikipedia. And I must only use content that is in the public domain or under a free license, such as Creative Commons, making sure that I understand the terms of the license, and providing proper attribution when required. And then I have to make fair use of copyrighted material that is permitted for purposes such as commentary, journalism, or teaching and research, and make limited use of it, using fair use, following certain standards, and using caution.

2.Interesting point

Wikipedia's "Copyright problems" section allows for discussion of copyright issues, review and feedback from administrators and volunteers, and the presentation of ideas, positions, and experiences to discuss how to correctly cite sources, deal with controversial content, or avoid copyright infringement, thus contributing to the continuous improvement of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is constantly being improved. This is very new to me, and I think Wikipedia's use of this collective wisdom to form a community is very representative and can really solve practical problems.

3.Discussion

What is the historical context of how Wikipedia has dealt with copyright issues? How have changes in copyright laws and related policies over time affected Wikipedia?

Comments

  1. I believe that the development of copyright law has both negative and positive impacts on Wikipedia. Although copyright law is becoming increasingly strict, society is also striving to promote knowledge sharing. These ideas encourage the sharing and dissemination of knowledge, rather than being restricted by copyright. This can help Wikipedia better balance the relationship between copyright protection and knowledge sharing.

  2. I think the viewpoints written by ZHONG XIN are very worthy of our consideration. The development of copyright law has had a dual impact on Wikipedia, in that strict copyright law poses a serious challenge to editors' content and limits the freedom of editors to use copyrighted material. On the other hand, the development of copyright law has also led to an increase in the number of legal disputes and so on. So Wikipedia also needs to find a balance between preserving the editors' advantage of selflessly contributing knowledge, while at the same time complying with the requirements of copyright law to ensure the legality and reliability of the content.

  3. Wikipedia's copyright issues are closely related to the unique operating model and the rapid development of the Internet. As copyright law continues to evolve, Wikipedia must find appropriate ways to protect users' rights while complying with laws and regulations.Wikipedia's protest actions and public mobilization strategies underscore the importance it attaches to copyright issues and the practical actions it takes to freely preserve knowledge when necessary.
