1.Summary

Wikipedia is a vast knowledge sharing platform that attracts millions of people to contribute content together. Among them, there are approximately 18342892 named accounts, but there are still more anonymous contributions. Wikipedia adopts a marketplace model, in contrast to the cathedral model, encouraging everyone to participate equally in the creation and editing of knowledge. Linus's Law states that with enough people participating in the review, all errors can be discovered and corrected. Preziwiki tracks every edit, making it difficult for malicious editors to persist for a long time. The success of Wikipedia is partly attributed to its user-friendly system, which makes constructive work more attractive than destructive work. The combined effect of law, norms, and architecture makes Wikipedia more inclined to help rather than destroy.

2.Interesting Point

When it comes to Wikipedia, an interesting point is that since 2007, although the number of active editors on the platform has remained relatively stable, new editors have been constantly joining, while old editors have gradually become tired and eventually left the ranks of active contributors. This phenomenon has sparked people's attention and reflection on the dynamic changes of the Wikipedia community, as well as discussions on how to maintain the enthusiasm of long-term editors.

3.Question

In the extreme case, if the Wikipedia community disappeared, leaving only snapshots of its content, how would this legacy be managed and maintained?

Comments

  1. The market model used by Wikipedia really encourages to everyone to participate in the creation and editing of knowledge. The core idea of the market model is to be open and democratic, regardless of factors such as geography, identity, professional background, and so on. This openness promotes the diversity and breadth of knowledge, and allows Wikipedia to cover rich and comprehensive content that meets the needs of different people.
