1. Summary

This chapter summarizes the challenges and ideals faced by Wikipedia. Zeroeth's law suggests that Wikipedia can only be effective in practice, while Ra ú l's law implies that everyone is defining their own rules. Wikifanatics 2007 presented a spherical puzzle metaphor, representing the multilingual collaboration of Wikipedia. The author compares Wikipedia to a global wish, but also points out the difficulties and tensions that exist within it. He hopes to view Wikipedia's ideals with an understanding and inclusive attitude. Goldwyn's Law points out our biases in judging others and ourselves, and Wikipedia faced serious challenges in its first growth stage. Wales called for the establishment of a culture of cooperation to replace a culture of conflict. Although Wikipedia is committed to higher interests, its collaborative culture also faces setbacks, thus requiring better regulation. Technology has played an important role in the development of Wikipedia, but success is more attributed to its strong collaboration than just the credit of Wikisoftware. People often hype up Wikipedia and Web 2.0 as magical tools that can change everything. However, critics question its shortcomings in terms of personal differences and social bonds. Although supporters of Wikipedia believe that it possesses these elements, there are also challenges. The leadership style of Wikipedia is sometimes described as a "benevolent dictator," which may be necessary in specific situations. However, as the community changes, there are differences and challenges, and some may believe that it no longer aligns with its original intention. Nevertheless, Wikipedia remains an important resource and its vision is still being pursued.

2. Interesting Point

One ironic point in this chapter is the view of journalist Stacy Schiff, who believes that Wikipedia is not a utopian project and that there are real-life issues such as triviality, stupidity, and vulgarity, which contrasts sharply with some people's idealization of it.

3. Discussion

The motto of Wikifanatic conferences is "Harmonious Earth". What are the challenges and how can we solve them to achieve global harmony?

1.Summary   This article discusses the characteristics of open content communities and provides a detailed description using Wikipedia as an example.
