GFC portrays itself as a pioneering ethnographic study of Wikipedia culture. In summarizing the overall content, the success of Wikipedia may result more from the community and their cultural norms than from technical aspects. The book consists of a total of 8 chapters, covering various aspects such as issues addressed on Wikipedia and potential challenges that may arise.

In this chapter, openness is defined as "characterized as an accessible and flexible type of collaboration, whose results can be widely shared." Typically, when people talk about openness, they tend to interpret it literally as something open to everyone, meaning accessible to all. However, in this text, openness was approached not simply as being open, but as a concept of accessibility to anyone. By assigning this meaning, the role of the open-source encyclopedia became clearer. Moreover, by adding some characteristics, a clearer conceptualization was made. These characteristics are open content, transparency, integrity, nondiscrimination, and noninterference. These five characteristics provided a foundation for open source to be more easily accessible. Therefore, I felt that if people who have not yet used Wikipedia or find it difficult to use were to read this chapter, they would be able to access it more easily. In other words, I consider it valuable information for non-users.

In that chapter, while discussing openness, it primarily focuses on the advantages. On the contrary, what are some drawbacks of an open-content encyclopedia or an open internet? I believe one disadvantage could be the spread of fake news. With everyone able to act as a source of information, there's a risk of misinformation being disseminated without undergoing the gatekeeping process like journalists do.

1.Summary   This article discusses the characteristics of open content communities and provides a detailed description using Wikipedia as an example. The author first uses the term "community" to describe interdependent groups of people who participate in discussions, decision-making, and share some practices that define communities. Then, the author proposes five characteristics of an open content community: open content, transparency, integrity, non discrimination, and non interference.
