Dramaturgy is a perspective on social interaction that analogizes it to theater. In this perspective, elements of social interaction depend on time, place, and audience, while the self is considered a dramatic effect emerging from the theatrical scene. Social interaction is likened to a theatrical performance, where individuals present themselves differently depending on the situation and the people they encounter. Thus, one's identity is continuously reshaped through interaction.There are front and back stages in this theatrical metaphor. On the front stage, individuals perform for an audience, while on the back stage, away from the audience's view, they are relatively free. Dramaturgy is criticized for not contributing to an understanding of society's legitimacy.

I found it interesting how roles in theater preparation parallel social interactions, involving collaboration with others preparing the same play. Additionally, the idea that the prepared performance can be disrupted by the audience was intriguing.

Impression management defensive techniques are typically employed before or during the performance. So, are defensive techniques behaviors that include both the front and back stages of the stage?
