 1) summarize in your own words of materials you read;

Social stratification is the classification of people within a society based on socio-economic factors. In other words, social stratification is the relative social position of individuals within a society. The structure of social stratification stems from positional inequalities among individuals, thus the degree of social inequality determines an individual's social stratum. As society becomes more complex, social differentiation increases, leading to greater social stratification. There are broadly two factors influencing social stratification: economic factors and social factors. Economic factors are useful in explaining how social stratification is constituted or maintained, while social variables are primarily useful in explaining causation.

2) mention of any new, interesting, or unusual items learned;

I've seen in the book Factfulness that there's a tendency for the middle class to expand in modern society due to the need for educated labor. It's mentioned that as the demand for educated labor increases, the education system develops, which in turn benefits many lower classes. It's interesting to see how many factors are interconnected in this way.

3) identify at least one question, concern, or discussion angle that is either problematic in some respect or could have been elaborated more.

Why should the criteria for social stratification be established?
