W4.1 FAN XINRU

Summary

Since its inception, Wikipedia has always adhered to the basic concept of inclusiveness and openness. However, in the process of establishing an open community, more rules are needed to support it. An inclusive, open, honest, and trustworthy environment is a key focus of Wikipedia's credibility and appeal. However, building such a platform environment requires a lot of effort and planning. Through discussions and communication among managers, develop relevant policies that can maintain the Wikipedia community environment and information security. As an open platform, Wikipedia has established principles of open and transparent operation, including settings for editing and discussion, as well as control over editing content, to jointly shape internal policies that are conducive to sustainable development. Discussions were held on how to better balance internal rules, organizational structure, management level, and other relationships, and solutions were discussed for the review issues. The article points out that the construction of open communities cannot be completed overnight, but requires timely adjustments and continuous elaboration to face emerging new problems and contradictions.

Interesting points

Non discriminatory values are upheld on Wikipedia, but non discrimination cannot cover all demographics. Although efforts are made to achieve non discrimination in terms of gender, nationality, race, and other aspects, there are still some subtle unfairness.

Problem

When openness to a certain extent affects the objectivity and content quality of Wikipedia, how should we better balance the relationship between them?
