1.Summary
Wikipedia:Did you know (DYK) is the project page for the "Did you know" section on the Main Page. This is a section that will showcase some interesting tidbits from new or significantly updated entries. The purpose of DYK is to encourage editors to contribute more high quality content and to give more people the opportunity to see their edits and provide exposure. But the content displayed in DYK must meet some basic requirements, such as: the entry should be long enough to have a reliable reference. And the trivia displayed should be concise, interesting, grab the reader's attention, etc. Once the editors have completed the basic requirements they can nominate editors for their entries, and if they pass the vetting process, these entries will have a chance to be displayed in the DYK section. In this way, DYK not only makes Wikipedia more informative and interesting, but also inspires more people to actively participate in editing and contributing.
2.Interesting Point
What I found most interesting was the concept of ‘hooks’ and the nomination process. Each ‘hook’ is a selection of interesting facts from Wikipedia's new content, in the form of ‘Did you know that ......?’ This is an interesting format that piques the reader's curiosity with a simple question. Any registered user can nominate these ‘hooks’ and self-nomination is encouraged, meaning anyone can participate and nominate their own writing.
3.Discussion
Did you know what topics are covered by the content displayed in this section? Are there certain topics that receive more attention and others that are less present?
The DYK project encourages editors to contribute more quality content, which contributes to Wikipedia's continued growth and progress
ReplyDeleteThe existence of YK not only makes Wikipedia more interesting, but also provides a fair chance for more editors to be exposed and recognized, thus motivating editors to become more actively involved in the editing of Wikipedia.
