Summary

After reading about Wikipedia's "Did you know" project (DYK), I realized the significant role this project plays in showcasing new content and promoting community building within Wikipedia. DYK is not just a simple fun section; its design and operation have clear goals and strict standards, which make it an important part of Wikipedia's main page.

The goals of DYK are very clear. It aims to showcase newly created and expanded content, showing readers the continuous development of Wikipedia. Every day, hundreds of new articles are created on the English Wikipedia, and many more are expanded and improved. DYK presents a series of interesting facts ("hooks") to display this new content to readers. This not only increases readers' interest but also enhances their understanding of the wide range of topics covered by Wikipedia. Moreover, DYK is not just about showing interesting facts; it also plays an important role in motivating editors. Whenever an article appears in the DYK section, the related editors receive an acknowledgment and thank you note on their user talk pages. This recognition not only encourages existing editors to continue their work but also helps attract new editors, creating a positive cycle that contributes to the continuous enrichment and improvement of Wikipedia's content. Although DYK may involve commercial or political topics, it must not provide inappropriate promotional advantages for these topics. This rule ensures the fairness and objectivity of DYK, allowing it to effectively showcase new content and motivate editors.

Every "Did you know" fact presented by DYK is the result of the collective wisdom of Wikipedia editors. I look forward to seeing more interesting and valuable content in the DYK section, and I hope more people will join the ranks of Wikipedia editors to contribute to the spread of knowledge.

Interesting point

I believe that the DYK mechanism creates a positive cycle of showcasing newly created or significantly expanded content, which encourages the continuous development of Wikipedia.
